One of my passions in life is studying and teaching God's word. I remember spending the first two years of my ministry career in biblical studies but as with anything living and active, there's always more to learn. As a student of scripture, my passion is to study the text, teach the text in its context, and help others see how applying it to our lives leads to God's best.
One of the things I have learned in my leadership career is that it's always helpful to have a strategy. Almost all things we do in ministry have a strategy attached to it - outreach, discipleship, missions, etc. But what I've learned over my time is that we don't have as robust of a strategy around people. Having a people strategy is a significant piece of a growing, healthy church and there are some key principles that are scalable, no matter what size your church staff may be.
I believe one of the highest responsibilities of any leader within the ministry space is around what they do with the money entrusted to them by God and their church families. There's more to this than often realized. Understanding your vision, goals, and generational impact you wish to have guides the way you use the resources of your church. Financial leadership is more than net income, it's about releasing funds for Kingdom impact.
Every church has the same mission, to help people find and follow Jesus, but each church is uniquely equipped and positioned to carry out the mission in different ways. For almost 10 years, I have had the opportunity to provide leadership to a variety of contexts. Whether it's a church of small groups or a church with small groups, having a clear, articulate ministry philosophy is key to aligning the team around discipleship and outreach.
